Spiritually Speaking at the Movies: “Send Help” 2h15m R. Short Review : Abysmal. The Good: There is a horrifying CGI plane crash scene early on in “Send Help” the FAA should use as a PSA (Pubic Service Announcement) about always fastening seat belts. It would be quite effective. And as a collection of sight gags akin to free U-Tube shorts, “Send Help” can have funny moments. But the Bad and the Ugly soon take over. This is a two-hour movie, and free PSA’s and U-Tube shorts aside, “Send Help” wears thinner and thinner, like a stale stand-up comedian gone far beyond his “15.” The movie literally drags itself to a fully unsatisfying conclusion. I honestly found myself silently pleading, “Please end this thing.” And if you want help as to whether or not to see this two-hour death trap that rubs your nose in it at the end, then save your money for another film. End the Short Review A Deeper Look at “Send Help.” What I found absolutely fascinating about “Send Help”, in theaters now (2/2026), is a movie utterly devoid of sympathetic characters. Not one. Except for an elderly Thai fisherman who is onscreen for a minute with a couple of speaking lines. Not a great indicator for about 120 minutes of screen time. The latin “non compos mentis” (not of sound mind) accurately describes “Send Help” to a "T". By movie’s end there is no one to care about, have empathy for, or root for. There is no redemption, no salvation of any kind. Worse, the movie freely admits this by chortling at the end,“There is no one coming to help, so you better start helping yourself.” Thanks for the insight. To elaborate: in “Send Help” there are no so-called role models; no so-called teachable moments; no so-called wisdom to glean. That is quite a litany of strikes against it even in these 21st century days of confusion. What’s the (Fatal) attraction? So, one might wonder, “Why should I spend time and lay money down to see a vacuous, violent film with no redemptive social qualities?” Why indeed? The people who saw this film and liked it will have to answer that one themselves in some twisted fashion. But if you are wondering,“should I see a two-hour, empty and inane film mocking us at the end?” Well, you know the answer I would give already.
